Starting with the term and concept of ‚clout‘ that has gained quite some popularity recently in pop- and online-culture, we will take a closer look at several different theories, ideas and approaches about how attention works. Is it a scarce resource and main subject of what has been labeled by some as a competition or even a war for attention? Is it the currency of a newly emerging attention economy? Is it the number of followers on your social media accounts?
How does it crystallize? How can we gain, collect, invest, use and leverage attention? What is an influencer strategy? Do we need clout to be successful in what we are doing?
In this one day seminar we will explore some of the standard as well as more recent ideas and theories around attention, influence and relevance. We will critically reflect different perspectives and link them with the participants’ experiences with the intention to become more aware and conscious about how we utilize our own as well as other people’s attention and influence in a favorable way.
Important note: Even though the term clout has gained a lot of momentum online this is not a social media seminar and the scope is not limited to online activity. Nonetheless the gained insights can be applied to social media and online activity just as well as to „analogue“ real world communication and exchange processes depending on participants’ needs and interests.
